An individual who laced candy with sedative and gave them to youngsters at a summer program in the region has admitted sexual crimes against two boys who were nine and ten years old.
Jon Ruben was detained after eight minors and a grown-up experienced illness at Stathern Lodge in the summer month.
The 76-year-old, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, pleaded guilty to a total of 17 charges when he appeared at the courthouse on Friday.
Yet, he disputed one particular crime he was accused of, which was concerning a young boy.
The accused was kept in jail ahead of a additional proceeding on November 28th.
'Candy game'
The legal representative, prosecuting, described Ruben's offending to the judicial body.
She explained his targets were disadvantaged youngsters who were participating in a summer camp which he ran.
The defendant engaged in a "sweet game" with the children, the prosecutor said, in which he would enter the boys' rooms when they were settling down and tell them to consume candy "as quickly as they can".
She stated to the judge the man had engaged in this activity with the young males "repeatedly", and minors had previously fallen ill the next day.
She said Ruben had been capable of justifying this repeatedly as the youngsters being "overexcited from fun", until his family member had concerns in summer 2025.
Mrs Prior KC added: "In the summer" his family member had concerns about the situation, justifiably.
"They chose" to investigate in the defendant's belongings."
Mrs Prior KC said objects including infant oil, ointment and medical needles were found, and his stepchild alerted the authorities about his worries.
She stated the defendant went on to conduct the "candy game" with six boys that time - Saturday 26 July - and they were all sick the next day.
"Law enforcement" had not gone out by that point," she added.
The police watchdog, the investigative body, previously told that it was investigating the police response of the incident.
The legal representative explained the minors were struggling to walk due to being ill, so the family member contacted the law enforcement a second time.
She said Ruben then conducted the "candy game" in a area of five minors.
